Litter Summit Facilitation Services
How To Host a Littering/Illegal Dumping Summit: Preparation/Implementation Checklist
- Select the organization/business that will be responsible for implementing the final
Plan that is the expected outcome of a Litter Summit. The organizer will be
responsible for coordinating sub-committees, but will not be responsible for doing
all of the work.
- Eco Educators serves as the facilitator. The facilitator is not paid staff for any
of the entities involved. Eco Educators is not politically motivated locally and does
not have a vested interest in the outcome. This provides an unbiased approach to developing
a local Plan.
- Compile a very comprehensive list of countywide appointed/elected officials, enforcement
personnel, business, educators, and activists, and media.
- Locate an individual who is able to take notes as the meeting is conducted. A laptop
computer and LCD player make the most professional type of note taking, and make it simple to
revise and prepare minutes. A flip chart will also work.
- Select a date and site. The initial Summit should be approximately three and one half
hours if a meal is not included. The site should be large enough to comfortably
accommodate the anticipated audience. Free parking is important.
- Prepare and send a letter and an invitation to everyone on the list regarding the need
for a Litter Summit. Make it compelling.
- Have a response deadline.
- Take registration.
- Return a confirmation telephone call or email. It is imperative to get as much
county-wide representation as possible.
- Call those who have not responded and invite their participation.
- Prepare an agenda for the day.
